چکیده
Tuberculosis is a common opportunistic infection and a leading cause of death in HIV patients worldwide, especially in developing countries. The study was conducted to evaluate the relation of CD4 counts to occurrence and type of TB and to observe for the recovery of CD4 counts after treatment for tuberculosis in patients of pulmonary tuberculosis and extra pulmonary tuberculosis. This retrospective study was conducted for a period of 2 months (February 2015March 2015) at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital & PGIMER. Total Number of HIV positive patients that came for CD4 testing were 1187. 80 patients who had dual infection (HIV with tuberculosis) were included in the study. Details regarding age, sex, duration of HIV, ART therapy, type of tuberculosis whether PTB or EPTB and ATT were collected. CD4 counts before initiating ATT and after completion of ATT was collected. So, the prevalence rate of tuberculosis in HIV infected patients was found to be 6.7%. Out of 80 patients, 47 patients had extra pulmonary tuberculosis and 33 had pulmonary tuberculosis. Mean CD4 counts in patients with PTB prior to ATT was 241 cells/ μl ranging from (22-541 cells/ μl). Mean CD4 counts in patients with EPTB prior to ATT was 224 cells/ μl, ranging from (80-600 cells/ μl). Following ATT, it was 322 cells/ μl in PTB patients and 303 cells/ μl in EPTB patients. There was statistically significant increase in CD4 count after ATT in PTB and EPTB.

Sero-prevelance of Cytomegalovirus and Toxoplasma Infections among Newly Diagnosed HIV Patients in Iran; Assessing the Correlation with CD4+ Cell Counts
Background and Objective: Opportunistic infections are the leading cause of death among patients subjected to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The aim of this study was to compare the seroprevalence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and toxoplasmosis infection in newly diagnosed HIV infected patients with healthy controls and it’s correlat...
متن کاملprevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in patients infected with HIV by microscopical and molecular methods
Background:In some countries, one of the first and most common manifestations of HIV positive patients is tuberculosis (TB). HIV positive people are prone to other infections such as tuberculosis due to immune deficiency and reduced CD4+ cell count. Although increasing access to antiretroviral therapy has led to a reduction in HIV-related opportunistic infections and mortality, the simultaneous...

Background: In the last 10 years, co-infection of human immunodeficiency virus/human T-cell leukemia virus-1 (HIV/HTLV-1) has emerged as a worldwide health problem. These viruses has the same route to infect human but different effects on CD4 positive T-cells. There was controversial results about the influence of co-infection HIV/HTLV-1 pathogenesis. This study compared clinical course and lab...
متن کاملSpectrum of Opportunistic Fungal Infections in HIV-Infected Patients and Their Correlation with CD4+ Counts in Western India
Introduction : The decreased level of immunity in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infected patients increases their vulnerability to various opportunistic fungal infections. Oral candidiasis has been found to be the most common fungal infection among HIV infected patients. The present study was conducted to evaluate the spectrum of various opportunistic fungal infections and their correlat...
متن کاملIncidence and Risk Factors of Tuberculosis in Patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection
Korea is a low prevalence country for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and has an intermediate tuberculosis (TB) burden. We previously reported that the incidence of TB in HIV-infected patients was 9.6 cases per 100 person-years (P-Y) between 1988 and 1997. The aims of the present study were to measure any change in incidence from the previous study, and to identify risk factors for...
